Exemplifying Our Mission
Chanel is a single mother with two children, ages three and one. She was in shelter for just over a month when she began working with a housing case manager.
Coming out of a controlling relationship, underemployed and overcoming trauma, Chanel needed to increase her income to provide for her and her children. She trusted her case manager’s guidance and set clear goals to conquer her hurdles.
Together, they identified areas of concern and Chanel put her head down, worked tremendously hard, and consciously made better decisions regarding mental health resources, budgeting, expenses, and savings. She set goals both short term and long to help her become more self-sufficient.
Currently, she is completing her master’s degree and paying 85% of her rental expenses on her own. Bethany House’s case manager still works with her to ensure that she stays on track and to help her explore next steps to meet her goals.
Bethany House’s mission is to empower homeless and at-risk families with the solutions to achieve housing stability and long-term self-sufficiency, and Chanel certainly embodies that. We wish her all the best in the future and are eager to see how far she flies!
