Trust the Process
Rolandus and Sheila built a good life together. They had stable jobs, a home, and two cars. But everything changed on January 5, 2023.
That day, Rolandus’s car was struck by a firetruck. Fortunately, their 4-year-old wasn’t in the car, but both Rolandus and Sheila sustained severe injuries requiring weeks of hospitalization followed by months of therapy, leaving them permanently unable to work.
With no income, their retirement savings quickly disappeared, their financial security crumbled, and they lost their home and most of their belongings. Eventually, the three of them were forced to sleep in their car.
Through community partners, they found their way to Bethany House.
With the guidance of Bethany House case managers, Rolandus gained access to the mental health care he needed. “The services and structure Bethany House offers were critical to my success,” Rolandus emphasized.
During their 10-week stay, they participated in Bethany House’s life skills classes. Sheila described a visioning and planning process for their future as “really exciting and helpful.”
Their daughter thrived as well, playing, learning, and making friends. “She still asks about going back to the play groups and talks about the friends she made,” Sheila beamed.
After months of hard work and perseverance, Rolandus and Sheila finally moved into a home of their own. Bethany House continues to provide ongoing support, ensuring they remain stably housed don’t face homelessness again.
Bethany House wishes Sheila and Rolandus a bright and bountiful future.
