Success Story: Phone Call Out of Nowhere
Charlynda works the 2nd shift at Baxter’s Food. Even though she had been employed there for seven years, in the summer of 2025, her hours were cut from seven days down to three.
Add car troubles to the mix and the bills started piling up.
Charlynda and her two children had been in their home for four years and were comfortable there. They didn’t want to move—or worse, become homeless.
Meanwhile, through the Housing Stability Collaborative, Bethany House had begun working with partners to use predictive analytics to reach out to community members before they were in crisis. Charlynda received a call from Tara, a Bethany House Case Manager.
“It was a phone call out of nowhere!” Charlynda says, but she decided to trust. Tara was reassuring about ways to help her; Charlynda took the leap of faith.
Tara assisted Charlynda in finding rental assistance for three months and financial help for high utility bills. After a few months, Charlynda’s work hours were restored, and she was back on track.
“When things start to go bad, you get into survival mode! You don’t know where to turn for help,” Charlynda proclaims. “The call from Bethany House came at just the right moment. It was a blessing!”
