An Uncle’s Commitment
When Deangelo became the guardian to his 11-year-old nephew Martez in 2024, there was a lot to be done—custody arrangements, court appearances, and medical appointments to help Martez overcome lingering health problems. They were able to stay with friends for a while, but ultimately, they became unhoused and landed at Bethany House.
Once at Bethany House, Deangelo and Martez received clean, new clothes, reliable meals, and a private room. Bethany House helped register Martez in the neighborhood school, enabling Deangelo to focus on what he needed to do to become stably housed. Deangelo was assigned a housing case manager who helped navigate the hurdles. They helped Deangelo with his resume, job readiness, and receiving a housing voucher.
Now Deangelo is a cook at a golf course—a job he loves—and Martez attends school near their home on River Rd. The two months spent at Bethany House readied them both for the secure life ahead of them.
Deangelo worked hard and has much to be proud of. Bethany House wishes him and Martez a lifetime of stability and happiness.
