Heart at Home
Four years ago, LaQuetta, known to everyone as Q, caught a story on the news about Bethany House’s new building in Bond Hill. The name “Bethany House” rang a bell. When she turned to the tv, she recognized a picture of the old house on Fairmount. This was the moment she realized she had been homeless as a child.
Q was six or seven years old the night she, her mother, and brother arrived at Bethany House. It was spaghetti dinner night. Q is not sure how long her family lived at Bethany House, but she remembers feeling safe, having a routine, and going to school with other children in the house.
Currently, Q works as a housing specialist, making sure that people who are eligible for affordable housing receive their benefits and tax credits. She is passionate about home.
“Cliche as it sounds, home is where the heart is. If you need help to get through the program, to get a housing voucher, then that’s what you have to do. Your children are not going to feel any differently. They are going to be safe.”
As for Q, she lives a happy life. Currently, she and her son live in a beautifully curated townhome filled with art, crafts, color, and music. She is saving up to buy her own house.
Success stories like Q‘s remind us that Bethany House’s work is life-changing. To learn more about Q’s beautiful life, click here for the video that was shown at the Welcome Home Bash.
